We all lose it in one way or another; this song does it in under 4 minutes! It starts in a state of heady innocence, hardens with experience, builds to protest and finally breaks out into a soaring solo over a sledgehammer riff – perhaps this person escaped their shackles? Maybe they’re dreaming again.
The Muso bit
Drawn from life experience, this song took on a life of its own. I wrote it and recorded it in D, it then insisted on being rewritten and re-recorded in G. It started life as a drone, but wouldn’t stay there. It accidentally flirts with the Mixolydian and the Lydian modes, and if you spot the e-bow, then we can be friends.
lyrics
Carried by a gentle breeze, I
Float on through my mind.
In a whirlpool, spinning round, there
Is no care to find.
I have no need for real life.
Imagination kills all strife.
I don't want the answer please, but
How was it for you?
I know that I wasn't there, but
Hell! That didn't stop you…
It seems I bleed in real life.
It seems I bleed in real life.
Why must we suffer a loss of innocence?
Why can't we be everything we're meant to be?
Why do we flog a dead horse,
When we know that it's all over?
Oh! We see what we want to see.
